Meet Shelli
Shelli is the founder of Lucas Health Solutions and a master practitioner of The Lucas Method.
Shelli started her career in Philadelphia in 1985, until Southern California called in 1986. After moving to San Diego, she worked as a civilian contractor a the Naval Hospital San Diego in the hand therapy department. In 1991 Shelli became a member of the American Society of Hand Therapists and began teaching continuing education for therapists both nationally and locally. She left the Naval Hospital and went to work at the University of California San Diego Hand & Upper Extremity Center for almost ten years. When UCSD partnered with a California-based therapy company, PRN, she was hired at the first Director of PRN Hand & Upper Extremity Therapy clinic in Mission Valley. Then, in 2000 Shelli decided to step out on her own and start Lucas Health Solutions.
Shelli always longed to live and work in Coronado. She and her family moved to Coronado in 2008. Finally, in August 2022, she took the plunge and moved her practice from San Diego/Pacific Beach to Coronado, where she shares space with osteopathic physician Dr. Mary Anne Haskell.
Shelli’s background in occupational therapy, a profession whose foundation is treating the whole person, proved worth-while. While working at the Naval Hospital San Diego, treating young men and women with devastating-multi-joint injuries, Shelli combined her roots as an OT and specialization as a hand therapist, and furthered her education with a treatment approach that incorporates the whole body along with the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder: structural integration. This approach is a hands-on body manipulation technique, developed by Ida P. Rolf. It works on the connective tissue (fascia) to release, realign and balance the whole body. To round-out her education and compliment her practice she became certified as an ergonomic evaluator so she is able to look at the person’s posture and correlate the body imbalances with work and/or leisure activities that may be causing the dysfunction. Shelli has authored several book chapters and papers, and is currently in the final editing of her book Step-By-Step Kinesio Taping Techniques for the Upper Extremity.
