the lucas method approach
She has developed a unique treatment approach for dealing with pain and disability, The Lucas Method. This is an integrated treatment approach for dealing with pain and disability that has otherwise gone unhealed.
Shelli started her career as an occupational therapist where the whole person is treated, not simply the area of injury. She quickly found her place in the area of orthopedics and decided that specializing in hand & upper extremity therapy was her calling. While working at the Naval Hospital San Diego, treating young men and women with devastating-multi-joint injuries, she combined her roots as an OT and specialization as a hand therapist, and sought to further her education with treatment approaches that would incorporate the whole body along with the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder injuries. That is when Shelli found structural integration, a hands-on body manipulation, developed by Ida P. Rolf over 50 years ago. It works on the connective tissue (fascia) to release, realign and balance the whole body.
But she found without modifying postural habits or correcting poorly designed work spaces, all the treatment in the world wouldn't become permanent. So along with treatment, she included assessment and modification of work and leisure-time activities
